Demonstrators began blocking traffic on First Street NE shortly after 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, according to US Capitol Police.

The agency stated they would give a standard three warnings to protestors to stop blocking the traffic before issuing arrests.

After the three warnings, some demonstrators still refused to get out of the street, prompting officers to begin arrests.

The 35 arrests were made for crowding, obstructing, or incommoding. The identities of the 17 members of Congress have yet to be released.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated as information is released.
